Measuring and Ordering Product
Measuring
The height does not include the header box.
Watch For:
- Casement windows (windows which swing out to open). Allow 1.5 inches above casement windows before bottom of header box to ensure windows will open properly when shutter is in the up position.
- Header box can be installed in soffits if there is not enough room between the top of the window and the bottom of the soffit.
- In some instances, it is easier to simply cover a part of the window with the header box than to mount in the soffit, if the customer finds this acceptable. In these cases, measure the total available space and indicate on the quote that the height measurement is total height (TH).
- Side rails require a flat 2 inch mounting surface. If it doesn't exist, include shims to provide this surface.
- If shims are needed, be sure to measure the depth of the shim, and if the shim needs to be square, rectangular, or "seven" shaped to accommodate a narrow window casing.
- Steel tubes can be used to shim large distances. (1" - 2" square)
- Shims run from the top of the angle to the top of the header box. In some cases it may be necessary to include flashing for the header box when using shims.
- When measuring flashing, allow 1" to connect to the header box, ½ - 1" to connect to the wall, It is crucial to measure the flashing from the corner of the header box to where it meets the wall.
- The shutter curtain needs a 1" surface to rest on at the bottom. If none exists, it will be necessary to supply a bottom angle equal to the width of the curtain and side rails. The standard sizes for bottom angle are 1" X 1" and 1" X 2". The bottom angle can be shimmed if necessary.
- Patio doors use a center split curtain and two operators. There is no extra charge for a split curtain on any window measuring 72" or less. Watch for screen handles etc. requiring shims when measuring these doors.
- On split curtain applications, especially those with three or more sections, be sure to determine the number of operators, the locations of the operators for installation, and which curtains each operator is to control.
- Use the "Remarks" section to provide your installer with as much information regarding the installation as possible. Be sure to note any unusual circumstances such as brick or ceramic walls or the need for long ladders, etc.
- When providing a drawing in the "Remarks" section it is most common to use the header box side as the orientation for the view. Usually this will be the outside but on occasion the header box is mounted on the inside of the opening. Be sure to indicate which side the header box is on.
- If the application being quoted requires a spring loaded operator, specify that non-slotted curtain slats are to be used.
- Spring loaded curtains must have a lock to keep them closed or the spring will pull them open. Key locks allow for use of the key from either side.
Rolco Rollshutters
Operation and Maintenance Instructions
Rolco Rollshutters are designed to be practically maintenance free. Occasional cleaning with a soft cloth and mild detergent will prevent any unnecessary build-up of dirt between the slats and on the housing.
It is recommended that each side of the vertical track be sprayed with a silicone lubricant at least twice a year to prevent the build-up of dirt and moisture and to help preserve the weather-stripping. The same type and frequency of care is recommended for the joints in the manual operator handle and universal.
For installations on or near the waterfront, it is recommended that the track be sprayed more often to prevent salt-air corrosion and build-up which can cause friction. |
